Welcome to Karate Academy Sydney! We are a family-oriented dojo that has been proudly serving the Kingsgrove community since 2014. Our dojo practices the traditional style of karate called Goju Ryu, which was developed by the esteemed Chojun Miyagi Sensei.

At Karate Academy Sydney, we are dedicated to fostering the growth of mind, body, and spirit (Shin Gi Tai) in all of our students. Our goal is to create a safe and encouraging environment where individuals can flourish. We firmly believe that by taking our training seriously, we can help each student reach their full potential and establish a strong foundation for life.

Whether you’re a beginner or have previous martial arts experience, we invite you to join us on an endless journey of discovery and development in the martial arts. Our classes and courses cater to children, teenagers, women, and men of all ages and skill levels. At the young age of 6, Chris embarked on his karate journey under the expert tutelage of Pat Drago Shihan in 2007, specializing in Goju Ryu. Throughout his karate career, Chris actively participated in numerous Koshiki tournaments, showcasing his skill and determination in locations such as Barrel and Picton.

In 2013, seeking further growth and challenges, Chris made the decision to join Seiwakai, under the guidance of the esteemed Glenn Stephenson Shihan. This new chapter in his karate journey opened doors to inter-club tournaments, allowing Chris to test his abilities against fellow practitioners from different dojos.

Chris’s dedication and hard work paid off as he progressed through the ranks, achieving his Dan grades under the watchful eye of Jessica Vetrisano Sensei. Her guidance and expertise have played a pivotal role in shaping Chris into the skilled karateka he is today.

Not content with solely focusing on empty-hand techniques, Chris has also delved into the art of Ryukyu Shimbukan Kobudo. Under the esteemed mentorship of Hiroshi Akamine Kaicho, he is currently studying this traditional Okinawan martial art, enriching his knowledge and understanding of the martial arts world.

Chris’s karate journey serves as an inspiring testament to his commitment, perseverance, and thirst for continuous improvement. With each passing year, he has grown both as a practitioner and an individual, embodying the true spirit of karate.

As Chris continues to evolve in his karate pursuits, we eagerly anticipate the great things that lie ahead for him. His unwavering dedication and passion for the martial arts will undoubtedly lead him to even greater achievements in the future.

Alex Vetrisano

At the tender age of 4 and a half, Alex embarked on his martial arts journey in Gojuryu, under the expert guidance of Pat Drago Shihan in 2007. From the very beginning, Alex displayed a natural talent and passion for the art, which led him to compete in a range of exhilarating Koshiki tournaments.

Seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth, Alex joined Seiwakai in 2012, under the esteemed mentorship of Glenn Stephenson Shihan. This transition opened doors to club tournaments where Alex could put his skills to the test against fellow practitioners.

Under the guideance  of Jessica Vetrisano, Alex dedicated himself to his training, resulting in the achievement of his Dan grades. Recognized for his exceptional abilities, Alex had the incredible opportunity to represent the club in the prestigious JKF National Championships, held in the vibrant Gold Coast. Displaying immense resilience and skill, Alex showcased his talent on a national level, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed his performance.

Continuing his pursuit of martial arts excellence, Alex has also delved into the intricate art of Ryukyu Shimbukan kobudo. Guided by the esteemed Hiroshi Akamine Kaicho, Alex is currently immersing himself in the study of this traditional Okinawan martial art. This additional discipline further enriches his knowledge and understanding of the martial arts world.

Alex’s dedication, talent, and unwavering commitment have not gone unnoticed, as he has been chosen as a member of the State Team. This recognition has allowed him to compete at both national and international levels, representing not only his club but his entire state with honor and distinction.

As Alex’s martial arts journey continues to unfold, we eagerly anticipate the remarkable achievements that lie ahead for him.

Monique first started her martial arts journey with Jessica Vetrisano Sensei at Karate Academy Bexley in 2014. Monique has entered many interclub tournaments placing in every one of them. Monique is currently practising Ryukyu Shimbukan kobudo in the Sydney dojo under Hiroshi Akamine Kaicho.

Sabrina began her karate journey at a very young age of 4 years. She attended classes with her mum and brothers. Over the years she has entered in many tournaments receiving State Titles in karate and Kobudo. She has had the opportunity to attend many seminars held by very high ranks. Sabrina has a great rapport with kids and adults, she currently teaches most of our kids classes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Goju Ryu Karate?

Goju Ryu Karate is a traditional hard/soft style karate developed by Chojun Miyagi Sensei and practiced at Karate Academy Sydney.

What are your operating times?

The dojo is open from Tuesday to Thursday offering 9.30am – 7.30pm. We also offer personal training sessions Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Can I work with a personal trainer?

Yes. Personal trainers are available. Trainers use a mix of cardio and weight training and incorporate karate styles into the training. Our trainers are dedicated to helping you reach your fitness goals.

How do I cancel my membership?

By enrolling with the Karate Academy Sydney, you are committing to each of the classes you have chosen. These classes are charged fortnightly. Class numbers are limited, therefore as a courtesy, we ask, for a minimum of 2 weeks notice of discontinuance via email.

How do I book a place in a class?

You can book a class by completing the enquiry form on our contact us page, or by calling 0411 199 735.

Can I bring my family members to the dojo?

Definitely. We encourage all families to join. We even offer family discounts. Talk to us today!

Is the dojo for hire?

Yes. We have the space available for seminars and yoga/pilates classes. Call us or send us an email with your enquiry.

Do you offer kids parties?

Yes. We offer kids parties Saturday and Sundays. Your child will be the Sensei and Master of the Dojo! Check out our Kids Party Page for more information.
