At Karate Academy Sydney (KAS), we are honoured to be affiliated with the Japan Karate Federation (JKF) — the official national governing body for karate in Japan and one of the most prestigious karate organisations in the world.
This exclusive membership opens an international pathway for our students and instructors, offering access to high-level grading standards, elite training opportunities, and the chance to compete on Japanese soil — the birthplace of karate.
What is the JKF?
The Japan Karate Federation (JKF) is the central authority for karate in Japan, affiliated with the World Karate Federation (WKF) and recognised by the Japanese Olympic Committee. The JKF governs karate styles including Goju-Ryu, Shotokan, Shito-Ryu, and Wado-Ryu, maintaining the highest global standards in both traditional technique and competitive performance.
JKF tournaments and grading systems are internationally respected and widely regarded as benchmarks for excellence in karate.
A World-Class Pathway for KAS Students
Being a JKF-affiliated dojo means our students are eligible to participate in qualifying tournaments held in Australia, with the opportunity to compete at official JKF events in Japan. These are elite-level competitions, where athletes from across the globe come to test their skills in kumite and kata against Japan’s top performers.
Participation in these tournaments requires discipline, technical precision, and outstanding competitive readiness — qualities we cultivate daily at KAS.
International Representation in Japan
Karate Academy Sydney has proudly represented Australia and Seiwakai at major JKF events in Japan over the past few years.
One of our most exciting achievements to date:
Sensei Monique Fatseas — placed 3rd in Kumite at the 2023 JKF Championships in Osaka, Japan.
This outstanding result highlights the calibre of our training program and the strength of our tournament pathway, from local competitions to the world stage.
Our Instructors: Committed to Excellence
To maintain the highest standard of instruction, our black belt instructors attend official seminars and technical training in Japan and Australia every year. These seminars are led by senior masters within JKF and Seiwakai, focusing on:
- Technical updates and standards
- Advanced kata and kumite applications
- Teaching methodology aligned with Japan’s top-level dojos
Our instructors are graded and certified by both JKF and Seiwakai, ensuring that every class at KAS reflects internationally recognised excellence.
JKF: Tradition, Excellence, and Global Opportunity
As members of the JKF, our students benefit from:
- Access to internationally recognised gradings and certifications
- Pathways to compete in JFK-sanctioned events in Japan
- Development under the same standards as Japan’s national athletes
- Instruction from internationally graded black belts and senior coaches
