I have been selected to represent Australia at the 2026 Commonwealth Karate Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, taking place 5-6 November – an incredible opportunity and the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
As part of the Karate Australia tour, I’ll also be competing at the Banzai Cup in Berlin, Germany (30-31 October), with a training camp beforehand to fine-tune my preparation before heading to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Championships.
My journey in karate began when I was just 4 years old. For the past 19 years, I have dedicated countless hours to training, competing, and pushing myself to become the athlete I am today. Now, at 23, all of that hard work has led to this: representing Australia on the international stage.
Karate is a self-funded sport. Unlike many Olympic sports, athletes like me receive little to no government or federation funding, meaning all costs of international competition – flights, accommodation, competition fees, training camps, and uniforms – fall on the athlete. Between Berlin and Glasgow, I’m expecting total costs of approximately $6,000.
Being selected to compete at the Commonwealth Championships is a dream come true and a milestone I’ve worked towards for most of my life. I’ll have the chance to test myself against some of the best athletes in the world, wearing the Australian uniform I’ve worked so hard to earn.
